Re: help install toshiba satellite 2435/S255

Dear all,

I am trying to install a dual partition with linux and xp on my recently bought toshiba satellita 2435/S255, 2.4P4, 512. I have unsuccessfully tried to boot red hat and knoppix (they both die very early on in the process). All attempts to fiddle around with options for these two systems have failed too.

Rumors are that Debian and/or SuSE however boot without problems. I am looking for some confirmation that this is indeed the case. I would be very grateful to hear from someone who has managed to successfully set up Debian on this toshiba system (or a close one).

thanks, matt.

I have a Satellite 2805-S401 that I dual boot between Debian and WinXP Pro. I won't mess with that again. Just return the Toshiba (if you can) and get a machine from www.aslab.com (this is where I plan to purchase my next machine). Their prices are comparable to the major vendors for similar hardware.

They will set you up with a Windows/RedHat dual boot as part of the custom config. They also supply their own custom kernel which is optimized for their hardware.

I like Toshibas and all, but I do not like that they have no Linux support. I also monitor the Toshiba discussion forum that is hosted on Compuserve. Someone there asked when Toshiba might start supporting Linux, and they told him when Linux has 50% market share on the desktop. I didn't particularly care for that response, since that was basically the "go away and leave us alone" response.

Just my thoughts.
