update-modules has nothing to do with /etc/modules. all it does is update
/etc/modules.conf from the files in /etc/modutils/
/etc/modules is just used to list modules (sans .o extension) that should be
loaded at boot by the boot scripts.
so, what you meant to say, was: add 'bcm5700' to /etc/modules and reboot,
or to avoid rebooting, run 'modprobe bcm5700'.
