Hi Brian
If the only thing you see in your X config log are some "EE" (errors)
about your mouse then try to put the following lines into your
XF86Config-4

.
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AllowMouseOpenFail"
EndSection
.
.
.
Even though you may have misconfigured your mouse settings, X should
come up. If this doesn't help you need to provide some more info about
the problem ;-)
