My HP Omnibook 5500CT has a 5.25" bay on the front for a cdrom, floppy or
external battery. Seems the charging circuits are burned out though, I
bought another laptop on ebay for 20 bucks, and someday plan to swap the
motherboards on it, but that's a someday project. Takes about half an
hour of work. I found the service manual's on HP's site. I've seen
people selling the same freely available service manuals on ebay for 30
bucks, and I'm rather confused, but hey, free market and all that.

Well, you're going to have to have a heck of a thick laptop case to do
that. What was the thickest 2.5" drive made? Bit of googling says...

I _think_ there was a 19mm standard, but that was back in the days of 120
meg drives And the thinnest today is.. 9.5? Toshiba made a 8.4mm
apparently.

Doesn't fit properly, stacked up. Now, theoretcically you could jam them
both in that 5.25" bay like what I have on the omnibook, side by side. Then
figure out how to cable it. Looks like the 4 pins on the side of pin 1
do it, if your drive has them. Then you have to get your bios to
recognize two drives, some do, some don't.

And I've spent enough time on this :)
