I also have a C600, and Debian runs fine on it (unstable, as it
happens). The i8kutils package is useful for controlling the fan. I
use ALSA for sound (with the snd-maestro3 driver) and the external
pcmcia-cs source for the built-in wireless card, and this all works
fine. The IR port *doesn't* work; ISTR there's some conflict between
the sound and the IR, and I tend to care more about the sound.
The other special thing on my C600 is the display; I have the
1400x1050 display, which is a non-standard resolution. My
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 has
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "Monitor Model"
HorizSync 30-100
VertRefresh 50-100
DisplaySize 287 215
ModeLine "1400x1050" 155.00 1400 1464 1784 1912 1050 1052 1064 1090 -HSync -VSync
EndSection
