Compaq LTE5100 - swapable CDROM/Floppy

Hi all,

I have a Compaq LTE5100 laptop with 24MB of RAM, and have installed Debian
Linux 2.2. Since I know only the basics of Linux, I am struggling with a
problem to do with a swappable CD-ROM drive/Floppy drive. I had to do an
install of 2.2 using the Vanilla version using Floppies. Now I can't get my
CD-ROM drive to be seen AT ALL. I have had a look at Linux Laptop, but
can't find any relevant articles on this kind of senario. How do I get my
laptop to look at this device. I have getting the following errors:

mount /cdrom

mount: special device /dev/cdrom does not exist.

I think I messed up the installation, but don't know how to go back to
it....can someone give me a hand.

Thanks

Max
