One of the things that I like about debian is that it doesn't have the
kernel as a listed dependency. As such on an upgrade it'll stay put and
this'll increase the chance of your system working, esp if you have
a custom kernel.

If you want a 2.4.x kernel then hit ftp.xx.kernel.org (where xx is
your country code (or the one closest to you via the innanet) and roll
your own.

I'm not sure but I don't -think- there is a 2.4.x kernel package for
debian yet (unless it's in sid...).
