DGA Problems....(and other graphic stuff)

I have been trying on and off over the past couple of weeks to get DGA to
work on my laptop with the latest X 4.0.2. My graphics card is a Trident
Cyber 9397, however if I enable the loading of the DGA module (as you can
see in my XF86Config) and then run /usr/X11R6/bin/dga as root I get the
following error

"Xserver driver doesn't support DirectVideo on screen 0"

any ideas? I'm am keeping my fingers crossed that this doesn't mean that
the trident drivers doesn't support DGA, although it says in the error
message that it doesn't :)

I have also included my XFree86.log file. I have spent a while turning on
and off the acceleration features of X, and have found ones which work
(through suspend/resume cycles) however I hope I haven't tweaked something
that his killed DGA. I don't think this is the case as I have also tried
turning off all the acceleration features and still I get the same error
message.

Whilst I'm talking about video stuff, can someone tell me how to set up my
mtrr registers properly. It seems my graphics card has several regions
instead of one continuous region (like in all the internet examples :( ).
I have supplied a copy of /proc/pci (aka pciscan) and /proc/mtrr (aka
mtrr) so that someone who has the "knowledge" can help me :)

anyone have any suggestions on how to setup SVGAlib for my laptop, so I
don't get the *very* scary melt/streak screen of destruction?

one last thing, in my XF86Config file there are one or two acceleration
options which are undocumented in the current release however they were in
the 3.3.x series. Any ideas on what to do with them for good performance?

thanks for any help you can give me

Alex

PS. this is not being done for movies (although it would be nice, I know
I flamed about linux/multimedia a few weeks back), its more so that I can
squeeze a littl' more battery time out of my laptop :)
