DMA/UDMA on an ACER TM 342

	I'm having problems in enabling DMA on my lap...
some detail:

dmesg gives:
PCI_IDE: unknown IDE controller on PCI bus 00 device 78, VID=10b9,
PCI_IDE: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later
PCI_IDE: simplex device:  DMA disabled
ide0: PCI_IDE Bus-Master DMA disabled (BIOS)
PCI_IDE: simplex device:  DMA disabled
ide1: PCI_IDE Bus-Master DMA disabled (BIOS)
hda: HITACHI_DK23AA-90, ATA DISK drive
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
hda: HITACHI_DK23AA-90, 8623MB w/512kB Cache, CHS=1099/255/63
Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 1.44M
FDC 0 is a National Semiconductor PC87306

- what does DMA disabled (BIOS) means? On my BIOS I wasn't able to find
anything on HD DMA... also, my HD it is not in the DMA blacklist....

"hdparm -I /dev/hda" reads:

 Model=IHATHC_IKD32AA9- 0                      ,
 FwRev=00FX0A4A, SerialNo=4G9323
 Config={ HardSect NotMFM HdSw>15uSec Fixed DTR>10Mbs }
 RawCHS=16383/16/63, TrkSize=36477, SectSize=579, ECCbytes=4
 BuffType=3(DualPortCache), BuffSize=512kB, MaxMultSect=16, MultSect=?0?
 DblWordIO=no, OldPIO=2, DMA=yes, OldDMA=2
 CurCHS=16383/16/63, CurSects=16514064, LBA=yes, LBAsects=17660160
 DMA modes: sword0 sword1 sword2 mword0 mword1 mword2
 IORDY=yes, tPIO={min:400,w/IORDY:120}, PIO modes: mode3 mode4
 UDMA modes: mode0 mode1 *mode2 mode3 mode4

and "hdparm /dev/hda" reads:

 multcount    =  0 (off)
 I/O support  =  0 (default 16-bit)
 unmaskirq    =  0 (off)
 using_dma    =  0 (off)
 keepsettings =  0 (off)
 nowerr       =  0 (off)
 readonly     =  0 (off)
 readahead    =  8 (on)
 geometry     = 1099/255/63, sectors = 17660160, start = 0

So, I try to set the DMA on with "hdparm -d1 /dev/hda", but I get the

 setting using_dma to 1 (on)
 HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
 using_dma    =  0 (off)

Where am I wrong? Any help would be really appreciated!
Thanks in advance
