pcmcia problems on network potato install

Hi all,

I'm trying to do an install of potato using a xircom pcmcia network card
and my HP 800CT. I switched to the older install disks ( thanks Charlie
) after experiencing the pcmcia problems noted on this list.

Now the install works and grabs the base system using ftp. At this point
I can switch to another shell and ping the network. But after reboot,
the installation gets all the way to 'apt configuration', but can't
access the network. I switch to another shell and, yup, sure enough I
can't ping the IP of the gateway. I check the configuration ( ifconfig,
route ) and everything is cool. I can't seem to find any errors in the
/var/log/messages and the pcmcia card has link lights and activity.

Anyone seen this before? Am I crazy? Any advice?

Thanks,

Matt
