I just can tell you that I have the same problem with my Acernote Light 350 PCX: apm only shows me "AC on-line" or "AC off-line", but gives no information about the battery load (this is with potato and 2.2.14 as well). My guess is that it is a problem with Acer's BIOS not being completely compatible with APM. Another feature I miss is suspend-to-disk. My laptop has a replaced hard disk, and obviously the BIOS doesn't support the suspend feature with this disk (it doesn't work with Win95 or DOS either). I did try the swsusp kernel patch, but didn't get it working yet: suspend would save the RAM contents to disk, and on rebooting they would get reloaded by init, but then suddenly the system reboots instead of getting back to the saved state. Any experiences here ? Gregor
