Problem with IBM PCMCIA modem

My modem is unrecognized by cardmgr. When I first inserted card my syslog
read as follows:

cardmgr [100]: unsupported card in socket 0
kernel : cs: memory probe 0x0d000-0x0dfff: clean
cardmgr [100]: product info "IBM", "V.90 PC Card Modem with XJACK"

I then made the following entry in /etc/pcmcia/config:

card "IBM V.90 PC Card Modem with XJACK"
version "IBM", "V.90 PC Card Modem with XJACK"
	bind "serial_cs"

Now when I install i get a high beep followed by a low beep. When i ran
cardctl ident it spit out the following:

socket 0:
product info: "IBM", "V.90 PC Card Modem with XJACK"
	manfid: 0x0101, 0x002e
	function: 254 ((null))

The null function line bothers me. My syslog reports that the following
had occured:

cardmgr[100]: initializing socket 0
cardmgr[100]: socket 0: IBM V.90 PC Card Modem with XJACK
cardmgr[100]: executing: 'insmod /lib/modules/2.0.38/pcmcia/serial_cs.o'
kernel: serial_cs: Request IO: No more items
cardmgr[100]: get dev info on socket 0 failed: Resource temporarily
unavailable
