I thought about that for a brief moment, but first of all, it's not an
easy task, and second of all, it ties us to Win95/98, and locks out
people with FreeDOS[*], OS/2, DR-DOS or even just older flavors of
MS-DOS/MSWin. None of which support vfat, afaik. It may even fail
with NT3.x, though I'm not entirely sure about that.
[*] it could be argued that FreeDOS is really the only one we should
actively support -- not that I'm making such an argument, but some
might. I'd certainly oppose any plans to *drop* support for FreeDOS,
though.
