Re: Missing Time (There be Aliens?)

After Linux boots, the system clock runs without input from the CMOS
clock. Probably during "suspend" the system clock stops, and restarts
when coming out of suspend mode.

Then, since the Debian startup/shutdown scripts do the clock --systohc
upon shutdown, the "wrong" time gets put in CMOS and then the next time
you boot the entire clock setup is messed up.

Perhaps check the system clock after a suspend and see if it's actually
stopping? If so, there will probably have to be written something to run
clock --hwtosys during a resume from suspend.

I also run NTP on my laptop to a local server, but I can see where this
doesn't help if the system clock is moving by quite a bit because NTP will
refuse to update the clock if the system time is off by more than a small
amount.

By the way, disclaimer here: I don't suspend my laptop (yet)... just
haven't gotten around to setting it up, and now I'm wondering if it's more
trouble than it's worth. The extra minute or two to boot would be worth
it to me to not have to deal with clock problems.
