The basic idea is that, roughly, Breaks is to Conflicts as Depends is to Pre-Depends. Conflicts requires that the conflicted-against package isn't even unpacked when the conflictor is unpacked, while Breaks allows the two packages to coexist on the system but (with --auto-deconfigure) deconfigures one of them. Breaks would be appropriate in cases where Conflicts: foo (<< some-version) is currently used to indicate that foo needs to be upgraded to some-version or newer in order to work with the conflictor. De relevante strings zijn: #: src/depcon.c:156 msgid " breaks " msgstr "" #: src/processarc.c:256 #, fuzzy, c-format msgid "" "dpkg: regarding %s containing %s:\n" " package uses Breaks; not supported in this dpkg\n" msgstr "" "dpkg: betreffende %s met daarin %s:\n" " pakages gebruikt het 'Breaks'-veld; deze dpkg ondersteund dit niet\n" #: src/processarc.c:262 #, fuzzy, c-format msgid "dpkg: warning - ignoring Breaks !\n" msgstr "dpkg: waarschuwing - 'Breaks'-veld wordt genegeerd !\n" [1] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackageDependencyFieldBreaks -- Cheers, cobaco (aka Bart Cornelis)
