These 3 machines are all multiboot configured with various flavors of Fedora,
Mageia and openSUSE as old as openSUSE 11.4 (2.6.37) and as new as Cauldron,
Factory and Rawhide (current devel; 3.18.1). All boot from Grub Legacy. All
behave as expected in response to vga=791 and video=1024x768@60 on cmdline.
The E7600/G41 system also has Kubuntu 14.10 (without working network, can't
find a network interface) booting with vga=791 video=1024x768@60 from
openSUSE's Grub Legacy into typical framebuffer 1024x768@60 mode before it
switches over to its bizarre framefuffer handling with ugly text and color
response to the setterm line in .bashrc that all other distros I use work
nicely with.

In summary, the most widely supported vtty mode other than 80x25 for at least
some Intel gfx users of Knoppix 7.4.2 live media is not available through the
means that were available to users of previous versions, if at all. Is there
some other way to get 1024x768 on the vttys that I've not discovered?
