FWIW, I've discovered this isn't unique to Knoppix. The same behavior
(or worse) is present on a current Debian/unstable with a vanilla
2.6.16.1 kernel. The kernel is sending a "remove" UEVENT, and udevd
is responding. I am pursuing this on the linux-hotplug-devel mailing
list at the moment.
