I'd have to strongly second Chris  where games are concerned.  I used
Knoppix to revive an old 333 MHz laptop and my 7 & 11 year olds have
spent hours on it playing games.  They both know how to boot up and
select Knoppix for the games and Windows for their school work.  Before
I couldn't get them to look at the computer.
