So, what's this supposed to mean? That other encoders use a different
extension? Could ogg files also be movies?

No problem. I'll answer your next letter by email. I just wanted to say I'm
still looking for films that can be played with open source software. Until
now, I found one with your links: a mov file. And even this brings all kind
of questions. Is mov an open format ? Can Xvid and DivX produce mov files?
Etc.

If I was a kid with lots of leisure time and had been born playing movies on a
computer, I wouldm't ask those "stupid" questions. Such is not the case, and
just writing to this jerk who writes:

"Pour le moment, 97% de nos usagers n'ont rien à télécharger pour utiliser
nos contenus, et c'est le maximum possible."

"For the time being, 97% of our users have nothing to download to use our
contents, and it's the maximum possible."

(In other words, as a state society, Radio-Canada/CBC intends to further
Microsoft monopoly.)

takes some time.

Before I got to this guy, I had to write to the ombudsman and then I'll
certainly have to write to my deputy... who happens to be Paul Martin, the
prime minister of Canada.

And then I'll have to follow the dossier. Write and write again because
Linux-Quebec has been infiltrated by so-called "do-ers" and no help is to be
expected from them. And there are many such dossiers I'm dealing with.

So, I would like everybody to understand, I'm doing my best with the time at
hand. Taking a month or two trying to figure out all the formats and the
licenses is just not an option for me.

I need a clear picture of the situation of open source and multimedia, a
picture I can submit to somebody who understands nothing about the
situation... and would rather not hear about it. And I need it fast.

If the Patents Offices throughout the world have their way, Windows codecs
might become more difficult to distribute and, though open source formats
might be as good or even better than patented ones, they might be next to no
use.

Once again, any help is welcomed.
