I brought this up a while ago. Reiser strongly advises the reboot. But since
I wasn't able to cite a source, I was wrong. Also, the point that Suse
doesn't require a reboot when installing the partition was brought up to
shoot down my "alarming" type of posts. I stated then, that I read, either
on Suse's site, or on the ReiserFS, site, or elsewhere, that Suse
specifically has hacked the ReiserFS to avoid the reboot, and they are the
only ones (as of when I read the info) to do this, all others require a
reboot. Since I don't have the time (and no longer care) to find the
article/citation, I am wrong, wrong, wrong on this as well. I have also
read, that the new ReiserFS, Reiser4, will do away with the reboot
requirement.

Of course, this could all have been fixed in a subsequent patch to ReiserFS,
prior to the Reiser4 version. It has also been pointed out to me, that the
info on Reiser's site is old. So I must be wrong.

Trust what you've read. Or not. I'll trust what I've read. According to what
I've read, Suse doesn't require a reboot for ReiserFS because of their custom
coding to ReiserFS. All others do, unless they have also custom patched
ReiserFS for this specific issue.

My attempts to get this info across have apparently been interpreted as fear
mongering, or fud, or an attack or something, as my last question to this
list is apparently being ignored. I'm probably dev/nulled.

Be careful what you ask. Or how you phrase the question, lest your motives be
misinterpreted. This should all hopefully be solved with the release of
Reiser4, if they have gotten around to removing the reboot requirement, among
the many other changes they've been making to the code.

Good luck.

Bing.
