[debian-knoppix] how is the soundcard detection made?

Hi list,

I am trying to prepare a configuration tool for another linux
distribution. I have got quite a few modules ready, but don't know how
to run soundcard configuration. Just wonder what tool you use for
it in knoppix. Would it work with 2.2 kernel? Is there a place I could
see the script? Not really interested in downloading whole knoppix
source.
