actually, at least in the debian-provided defvsd package, it creates
all the legacy links for you such that they point the the right devfs
location (like hda -> ide/host0/bus0/lun0/disc).  and also, i think
the new scheme makes a lot of sense.  so your hda scanning scripts
should still work just fine if devfs is properly installed.
