[Debian-knoppix] Unreadable Colors on Toshiba Satellite 4090XCDT

Hello Folks,

I'm trying to run Knoppix on several Toshiba Notebooks here and one of them
(Satellite 4090XCDT) geht's an unreadable dark "tint" on it's screencolors.

Even at boottime one can see just the brightwhite, green, yellow, red and blue.
Tux in the upper left corner is completely black except a darkgray edge and an
white belly.
Messages like "INIT: entering runlevel: 5" are almost black and barely readable.

The Notebook sports an Trident Cyber 9525 chip and under WinNT4 it runs ok
utilizing a 16bit colorspace.

Cheating at boottime with "depth=16" bring's no effect
(xmodule=vesa of course; any allready tested Toshiba needs that here).

Right now I took a deep breath ;-) and booted using "depth=8" ... which works
only a bit better (doing Networkconfig is still an act of guessing, all in the
box is black in black except some rare white outlines).

And when switching consoles (alt-F1) the text is still in bad colors.

Anyone got an idea how to solve this?

Thanks a lot for your pains,
Michael.
