Package: linux-image-2.6.25-rc8-686
Version: 2.6.25~rc8-1~experimental.1~snapshot.11067
Severity: normal
File: linux-image-2.6.25

My firewire ipod no longer works with either the new juju firewire stack
(firewire_sbp2) nor the old ieee1394 (sbp2) stack. The ipod has worked for
many years prior to the switch in 2.6.22 to the new stack. The ipod
works on macs and pcs so it's not an ipod error.

The ipod connects fine and I can see the music, but when I try to write
anything (either with gnupod, gtkpod or amarok) then the ipod just sits
there with the hard drive clicking over every 5-10 seconds in what
sounds to be a reset noise. The system slows to a crawl and the only way
I can resume is to pull out the firewire pcmcia card. Interestingly, the
problem/symptoms seem consistent between the two stacks?

I raised these issues in bug #475295 but that seems to have devolved
into an "old vs new" flamefest and I'm afraid my useability concerns got
lost in there :(

I understand the need for secure and clean code for the firewire stack,
but arguing that the userspace applications need to catch up to a stack
that doesn't even work is not an argument. Meanwhile, my ipod continues
not to work.
