Package: udev
Version: 0.100-1
Severity: important

Hi,

Since udev has been upgraded from 0.093-1 to 0.100-1 on my Debian
testing, I have problems with my wireless interface (ipw2200 driver).

/etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules contains the following
rule to rename it:
SUBSYSTEM=="net", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTRS{address}=="00:12:f0:12:05:03", NAME="wifi"
This rule has been automatically added by the system, I just changed
"eth0" to "wifi".

Since 0.100-1, the rule is very often _not_ applied. The interface
remains named "eth0". Additionnaly, wpasupplicant and network-manager
have strange behaviors when dealing with this interface.

The problem seems to appear with both 2.6.17 and 2.6.18.
But not always. Sometimes it works just fine. I didn't find anything
that seems to cause the problem to occur. For instance, sometimes,
I load ipw2200, the interface becomes "wifi", but if I change nothing
on the system, unload and reload ipw2200, the interface would be
"eth0".

In case it matters, note that I always load ipw2200 manually after
the boot.

I have a similar rule for the wired interface, it seems to always
work fine. The corresponding driver (tg3) is loaded during the boot
(through /etc/modules).

Let me know if I can do anything to help debugging. I didn't find
a log file describing which udev rules are applied.

Thanks,
Brice Goglin
