Bug#259350: kernel-image-2.6.7-powerpc: internal eth0 not detected (bmac module)
Package: kernel-image-2.6.7-powerpc
Version: 2.6.7-3
Severity: normal
Hi Debian powerpc kernel mantainers,
First thanks for the hard work to make installing easier
for everyone!
Apple Powerbook G3 400 MHz "Lombard"
(has an internal ethernet)
Kernel 2.6.7 does not detect that ethernet card.
(2.6.6-5 has the same problem).
This makes transition from 2.4.25 or older kernels more difficult
as people need to know that they must load module bmac now
and how to load it. They might loose the network connection
which might leave them without the possibility to look up
information on the net. ;)
If you are in that situation:
modprobe bmac
and then restart the network, e.g. with
dhclient
Permanent workaround:
adding bmac to /etc/modules.
