Bug#259352: kernel-image-2.6.7-powerpc: sound startup problems (dmasound_pmac)

Package: kernel-image-2.6.7-powerpc
Version: 2.6.7-3
Severity: normal

Apple Powerbook G3 400 MHz "Lombard"

Kernel 2.6.7-3 and 2.6.6-5 do have the same sound problems
as I have reported with 2.4.25 and earlier kernels.
[I'll make this one join report, feel free to split up.]

* They produce crackling sound when starting up
under some circumstances (probably fresh startups or resets with
sound volume set up). Until dmasound_pmac is loaded.

* They do not detect that dmasound_pmac needs loading.
(If you are in that situation place dmasound_pmac in /etc/modules)

* When dmasound_pmac get's loaded the crackling stops, but
the volume seems to be turned up maximum. When mixer settings
are restored (like with aumix) the situation eases.

Hopefully this report is useful!

Bernhard
