qt bug that corrupts kmail messages

Is anyone else frustrated by the fact that since KDE 3.3.0,
Kmail has corrupted email messages containing tabs (such as
messages containing inlined patches)?

Here's the bug report, which contains a patch:

I guess there hasn't been an upstream QT release that contains
the patch yet, but it is only a couple lines, and it's been in
the KDE libqt for several months.  Would that patch be a candidate
for inclusion in a new debian build of libqt 3.3.3?
