kde device icons on the desktop

Hello list,

I am trying to add my cd-writer to the icons shown by kde on the desktop to 
mount and umount them.
My cdrom [/dev/cdrom] is shown and reacts on the cdrom button. There is one 
for mounted and one for unmounted.
My cdwriter [/dev/brenner] is not shown and does not seem to be associated to 
the cd-writer icon in KDE offers so me.
Is there a possibility to make KDE aware of my writer.
And what is the magic behind kde path :/device in konqueror. Where does it 
point to?
