Hitting 'l' will do the same thing - sometimes kmail gets this right, and
picks it up from the headers (a la the filters, which I think handle mailing
lists better than any other mailer I've experienced), and sometimes you need
to add the data to the folder's properties, but after you've done that once,
it works flawlessly for me...
