Yes, that elimates the recognizeable head moving. Thanks! 

Okay, I can live with this, i do not need access time information. 
Although I am not really happy because I do not understand what is 
triggering this periodic disk access. (Yes, the access time must be 
written to disk, but that was true also the time before I did upgrade 
last time - introducing this behaviour.)

Yes I do. 

I am using reiserfs for months now and I never had this effect before. 
Is it reiser specific? Access time handling is implemented in ext2 
also...
