what about ruby? I've been reading the ruby book, and it's syntax is 
really clean (with niceties like number.abs() and string.length()). 
It looks like it would be an easy language to start with. And, it is 
interpreted so there is no compile, run, oops, change, recompile, 
repeat cycle.
