A pre-packaged application should never query the registry files directly;
it should only use the recognition scripts in java-common.  These scripts
will do things like search through all the registry files for a JVM of
version >= foo, or hunt down the registry file of whichever JVM is
referenced by the /usr/bin/java alternative and return properties of that
JVM.
