Well, this makes it seem like we would not be able to distribute any other jdk. (Or any other compiler like jikes, or any other software that might provide the funtionality of any feature of the jdk)

*** (v) you only distribute the Software subject to a license agreement that protects Sun's interests consistent with the terms contained in this Agreement ***

Hmm, what are suns interests?

My favorite. So if somebody uses the software that sun wrote and it kills them because of suns negligence then Debian has to pay to defend Sun.

While IINAL I work for a company that has deployed Java applications running under debian for several large Free Software Projects (pocketlinux, etc...) as well as fortune 500 companies. Suns liscensing is basically ignorant and the liability transfer clause probably isnt even legal. I for one would be increadibly happy if we could package and distribute Sun's JDK. Unfortunately I wouldn't want Debian to take the risks associated with distributing the package. (Because of botht the liability risk and the question of violating the functionality clause...)

Take all of this with a grain of salt as IINAL. Then again its quite easy to point your /etc/apt/sources.list to blackdown and fetch the jdks...
