Any of my servers are connected to a managed 1GE Switch with 40GE
backplane. And the network was always faster then the disk access on
SATA drives.
I do not know, which server (homebrew?) you are using, but even a small
"Fire X4100" outbeats most Web/Mail applications. Also 99% of the access
is read only.
Also is PostgreSQL much more secure then mySQL and this IS prooven.
