Backup from huge Maildirs

Hello *,

the FileServer im my Enterprise hosts arround 60 users and has apache,
courier-imap, php5, ssh and proftpd installed.

For arround 3-2 years I was running into trouble with the huge Maildirs
in the ${HOME}/Maildir and have put them onto a separated Disk-Array and
symlinked the ~/Maildir into the users HOME.

Curently I have:

/dev/sda1 1G	/ rescue
/dev/sda2 2G	swap
/dev/sda3 20G	/tmp
/dev/sda5 2G	/ production 1
/dev/sda6 1G	/var/log	production 1
/dev/sda7 2G	/ production 2
/dev/sda8 1G	/var/log	production 2
/dev/sda9 20G	/PostgreSQL	postgresql 8.1

/dev/sdb1	150G	/Maildirs	holding 60 Maildirs

/dev/sdc1	300G	/home

where I have two RAID-1 FOR "sda" (2 x WD740GD) and "sdb" (2 x WD1500GD)
and for "sdc" a Raid-5 (4 x WD1500GD) located on two 3Ware 3W9500S-4.

Now I backup each night and for the /home it is no problem since the
most files are big and each ${USER} backup has only 2-3 GByte except my
${HOME} which is very huge (26 GByte).

My problem is the /Maildirs directory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -- Argh!

It taks to much time (over 5 hours) to do incremental backup using the
rsync method.

Can anyone tell me a PERFECT solution to backup 60 Maildirs (maybe
increasing) which hold per $USER over 1 million files?

Since the Server is nearly 95 sleeping, I use only a Semrpon 2200+
with 2 GByte of memory. But since Socket A CPU's do not more exist,
I do not realy like to change the Mainboard, CPU, Memory + Graphiccard
only to get (my current) Backup done in less then 30 Minutes.

Can anyone recomment a Maildir specialized backup method/program?

I like to get Backups per ${USER} and in tar.bz2 format which mean, per
backup and ${USER} each time two archives. Also the backup solution
should create ONE full-backup and SIX incremental-backups plus transfer
using scp to another host.

Thanks, Greetings and nice Day
