Hi! As you may have read in [0], a new Cyrus SASL package is very close to being included in etch. Some of the most important changes are listed in [1]. [0] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/11/msg00011.html [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/11/msg01017.html I believe that readers of this list are among the ones using Cyrus SASL for critical systems, and the ones having some of the largest and most complex setups. Version 2.1.22.dfsg1-6 of cyrus-sasl2 was just uploaded to unstable, and it should be autobuilt and ready for consumption through apt-get within a day or two. Please help us (the Cyrus SASL packaging team) to test the package even more. We've already got many reports of both successful and unsuccessful upgrades and installations, and we've squashed a lot of bugs, but we want to do whatever we can to make sure this package is thoroughly tested before entering etch. It's fairly easy to downgrade the package if you encounter problems. Take backups of /etc/sasldb and /etc/defaults/saslauthd in addition to backups of whatever user database you're using, and downgrading will be simple. As always, record your experience by submitting a bug with details. (If you just want to tell us that everything went fine, you can email us at pkg-cyrus-sasl2-debian-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org instead.) Thanks! -- Fabian Fagerholm <fabbe@paniq.net>
