If it is one of the ICH6 with a AHCI controller (everything but the very
first ICH6, i.e. a ICH6R, ICH6M, etc), it is a damn good SATA bridge.

Don't expect a SATA-300 disk to work with a ICH5 unless the drive itself has
a fallback-to-SATA-150 dipswitch/strap due to hardware bugs on the ICH5.
ICH5 also can't hotplug (it can coldplug).

ICH6 doesn't have those problems.

Other than that, a new kernel (any 2.6.10+) will work just fine with it.
