A long time ago GIF was supported on GDlib, but, ths format was removed
because it isn't free.
I dont know if there is a manner to recompile GD with GIF support.
Why don't you use PNG instead?

we are trying to get the open source cms "Typo3" running on debian
woody.
The system requires GDLib/Freetype with GIF support installed.
The Gdlib for php on woody supports just the png format.
What can we do?
- Is there a patched GDLib somewhere?
- If not, how can we compile GDLib as shared object for php?
Or is there anyone who has got the some problem or knows a solution????
