protfpd virtual user

Hello,
this is most likely an often ask Question, but i didn't found any clues for
it yet.

I need to create areas in my ftp-area that ist password protected. (proftpd
on potato)

I don't want to cretae an real user for them, so  i tried UserAuthFile with
an copy of my passwd.
That works for real users, but not for my virtual ones. (I think the problem
ist the shadow file)

I tried with aliasing the ftp user and requiering a password, but that
didn't work either.

Anybody any clues?
