I decided to give just that a try... I downloaded the source package (from
my local mirror) and have compiled it... am now in the process of installing
the .deb's (takes a long time on an 8mb Linux box!  :-)

I'll see how that works, and will no doubt be in touch again if things still
don't work.  :-)
