What i find perplexing is this : The character map (used to drag, cut
and paste words) is a part of the Ubuntu distro as much as the gedit
or firefox applications so how the word is correctly displayed there
and not when pasted on another application ?
This diacritics problem causes spelling mistakes and changes the
meaning of the word completely. The errors due to the changed vowel
markings occurs in firefox mozilla, OO and plain text files when i use
gedit {gets worse with emacs <sigh> so i shall readup and deal with
emacs later.}
OTOH, I may be wrong but is it possible this problem is in a
particular application and may not be a Debian problem afterall :-)

Well, not exactly... I use Ubuntu and it happens in gedit , firefox
(see above ).
The dialog box of the Character map is the only place the display renders well.
The following order is correct , but the final display on any document
has mistakes.
U+0935 DEVANAGARI LETTER VA ,
U+093F DEVANAGARI VOWEL SIGN I ,
U+0915 DEVANAGARI LETTER KA ,
U+094D DEVANAGARI SIGN VIRAMA,
U+0930 DEVANAGARI LETTER RA,
U+092E DEVANAGARI LETTER MA.
What am I missing here ?
