Well maybe if we'd wait the kits would be replaced by something else
by then. :)

I don't think udev upstream would accept patches to support anything
non-Linux.

AFAIU upstream for the HAL replacement (DeviceKit* among others),
considers it an interface to be implemented by the other non-Linux
systems, by way of their native system libraries and interfaces. And
I'm not too sure about their current stance on accepting backends for
other systems, but if it's like upstart it might imply needing to fork
or similar.
