K16 was a bad experience because of one off problems. Usually most of the
time is spent on the debian-cd aspect of the iso's. Making the disc
bootable should be no problem, particulary if Calicut produces the
tarball.
I had two problems.
The current debian-cd/etch combination is too clever for the Hurd; great
for etch and larry though. The solution was to use an earlier version of
debian-cd running on woody. Debian-cd does sort out dependencies nicely
and enables packages to be placed on the discs in a customised order (to
a degree).
The slow optical drives. Standard debian-cd DVD iso's will not work and a
work-round had to be found. If the full DVD could have been used all the
arch: hurd packages could have been included on it. The proper solution
here is to speed up the disc access.
While there is <apt-cdrom add> it does not work on the Hurd, so larger
discs are better for users.
