Re: Newbie help: Network hangs

For the record, I had the exact same problem with an older installation using the J2 CDs. Since I'd previously been able to access the Internet with an older GNU/Hurd installation, I assumed that there was a bug with the network on the J2 CDs.

Maybe there's a bug that's activated by certain hardware configurations?

Roman, what network card are you using? Mine is a RealTek 8139.

alpha.gnu.org has been down today. Try a different site. I generally
use 'ftp.uu.net' for testing. Is your name server on your local subnet? If not, then you know that your default gateway must be setup right.

Tks,

Hi.
I have installed HURD from the "latest" tarball and have read the installation guide, however every time I go to ping a site on the net the system hangs. For instance: ping alpha.gnu.org, would return :PING alpha.gnu.org(199.232.41.11) 56 data bytes ,and just hang . I can however ping a machine on my LAN and get an approiate response. My /etc/resolve.conf is identical to the one I have on Debian that dual boots on the same machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
