Hey I wrote up a small doc on putting a login shell on your serial port so that you can login from another box. The document is here: http://www.freesoftware.fsf.org/thug/serial-howto.txt Be warned that in the current Hurd package there is a bug in runttys that will cause a segfault if you have more than one line of terminals in /etc/ttys.
