How about simply pointing people to the subscription web pages?  That
way, we won't get "subscribe" mails sent to the lists in any case.

Here is my feeble attempt at doing both:

| To subscribe to debian-hurd, go to:
| http://www.debian.org/MailingLists/subscribe
| To subscribe to the other lists, go to:
| http://mail.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo
| You can also subscribe by adding the word -REQUEST at the end of the
| lists name in the mail address (eg. help-hurd-REQUEST@gnu.org) and
| sending a mail to this address with the word "subscribe" as subject.
| Subscription or unsubscription messages should NOT be sent to the
