Using a partition size of 850 meg and replacing '==' with '=' in the dpkg-hurd script woked like a charm. Now I can try and play with the Hurd :-) One note to Red Hat users - I am using a v5.2 installation, and dpkg wanted the start-stop daemon installed. I found a C version of this in the /usr/doc/SysVinit-2.74/ directory, which compiled fine with the inclusion of "#include <errno.h>" in the beginning. brian
