Re: Raising Debian Awareness

From: Thibaut VARENE <varenet@esiee.fr>
We provide a short and non-exhaustive list of the current usage we do
of Debian GNU/Linux on hppa platform as part of our work here:
http://pateam.esiee.fr/realisations.html

Right this is exactly the type of information I'm looking for.

FWIW, Debian GNU/Linux has been chosen here at our school
(ESIEE, www.esiee.fr) as the official and only Linux distribution
for the whole school (about 200 computers). It's also used at a
production level for some sensitive servers (ldap, samba, dns...)
as well as webserver on Itanium architecture (www.gelato.org).

Again just what I'm looking for

FWIW, we've been working on adding a "testimonial" section to our website
soon, so that users can describe how they use Debian GNU/Linux on hppa...

Great

What I'd like to see by the time I've finished this, is that I have a breakdown of how linux is used and on what platforms. Also how Linux was introduced to the businesses in which they run. I've already got some data from FLOSS (Free/Libra Open Source Software) survey from around 2002. What I need to do is hear from the technical people to round out my views. I'd like to hear about successful projects i.e using lvm, clustering on a hppa platform.

So that by the end I have a document detailing the scope and benefits of Debian Linux. This document would then sit on the net for others who want to use it and extend it to their business needs. The document would include references to the work detailed at http://pateam.esiee.fr/ and others

I need Linux to be seen, because it never seems to enter the conversation when someone is putting together a solution for a client. If I have this document ready to be launched when solutions are being put together then maybe Linux will be given a chance.

regards

Leo
