Hamradio blend website and live images
Hey all,
I've finally sorted out my GPG key and other issues that were holding me back from uploading.
I had a support message from someone yesterday who pulled our live image from here [1] and was asking about wsjtx.
The most recent live image of the blend we've got up is of Debian 8.5.0 - pretty out of date by any standards.
Given the webpage hasn't been updated in some time, I suggest a short term solution to pull links for the live images and just direct people towards metapackages. I spoke with irl and the source currently lives here [3].
Longer term, is there any desire for continued production of live images? It's clear we've done nothing for the last few years. I had a go at using the debian tools to build a new live image [2] a couple of years back, which was fun.
I like the idea of having the image, and I hope that with CI on salsa, we might actually be able to automate generation of an image - that's definitely a challenge I would be interested in taking on. To get new images on the relevant server we'd need to talk to someone in the debian-cd channel, but thats a "later" problem.
Equally, I can see a good argument against having a live image and just directing users towards metapackages - there's the ongoing maintenance to avoid stale images and the potential expectation of user support.
Has anyone got any strong feelings on this? I lean towards producing a live image, but I'm not going to be upset if the general consensus is "please don't" :)
